ELMIRA, N.Y. -- There's a good reason why Muskegon Fury coach Danton Cole likes to insert Rob Hutson into his lineup.

"He's got an edge and he played a lot like the way I played," said Cole. "You tend to like guys who remind you of yourself."

That's why Hutson has been inserted into the lineup in three crucial playoff games thus far. He played in the seventh and deciding game in the Western Conference finals against Quad City, Game 1 of the championship series against the Elmira Jackals and again in Game 4 on Wednesday night.

Hutson, who arrived in Elmira too late to play in Game 3, was scheduled to fly home today and be on call again for Game 6 in Muskegon on Saturday night.

"He's one of the memory numbers on my phone," said Cole, who used Hutson 10 games during the regular season. "He makes plays and he works."

And since Hutson, who manages The Edge ice arena in Holland, is getting into coaching, he understands the game even more.

"There's something to be said for being a student of the game," said Cole. "He's been great for us all year."

In 10 regular-season games, Hutson had one assist. He had one important assist in three playoff games. He set up Anthony Terzo's goal in Game 7 of the Western Conference championship game that gave the Fury a 1-0 lead.
