According to pointstreak we signed Chris Cloud, a forward that spent the last few years in the WHL. He's listed at 5-11 and 186, and according to hockeyfights.com he's averaged about 15 fights a year, so sounds like he'll add a little grit. Maybe he's a young Brian Pellerin

Those of you whoe have been around this board for a while know that I have had a near-perpetual inkling to get a guy named Mike Sgroi on the Gorillas roster. This year, like every year for the past five or six, I have dropped more than hints about getting this big, tough power forward on our roster.

Well, we couldn't have hoped for a much better start to the season. I've only been able to watch on chl.tv, but it's clear we have a better talent level this year, not to mention the high energy-level we are playing with. Having a couple of legit goaltenders helps a ton too, obviously. For you folks that saw the games in person, what are your thoughts?

Opening Day Final Roster

It appears that Bert Malloy and D.J. Delbuono did not make the final cut. Both seemed like real good young men and I wish them well. Pointstreak lists what appears to be the 19 players that we start 2009-'10 with.

In goal we have 2: Brown and Lohtander

We appear to have 7 defensemen: Aldoff, Brennan, Jernberg, McNeill, Obermeyer, Smale, and Smith

That leaves 10 forwards: Battaglia, Bell, Chafe, Guay, Guenther, Hill, MacRae, Morissette, Nimmo, and Sutter

Yesterday a lot of teams in the CHL made some cuts. The ones that I found most notable are:

Defense:

Pascal Bedard - A puck-moving and scoring defenseman just a few games shy of veteran status.
Rob Chappell - A very tough stay-at-home defenseman with junior ties to Sutts.

Offense:

Jamie Carroll - A young high scoring forward proven in the IHL, but currently without a home in the CHL.

Wow about the Gorillas signing this player Blake Rielly I was looking at this young man stats and all i can say is impressive.

Here is a little about Blake Rielly: 5ft 9in 210pounds
He is a RW in his only two years at Surrey Eagles of the BCHL he played at total of 122 games, 22 total goals, 70 total assist, with 92 total points and here is what stuck out at me like a sore thumb that had just been nailed by a hammer in only 2 season at Surrey he total 300 penalty minutes....
